asSigned questions and answers
How asSigned gets your Notion contracts signed, what it costs, and what it keeps. Can't find an answer? Write to support@as-signed.com.
Getting started
What is asSigned?
asSigned adds e-signatures to Notion. You write an agreement as a page in a Notion database, set its status to Ready to send, and asSigned emails it to the signer. The row updates as it goes (Sent, Viewed, Signed), and the certified signed PDF is attached back to the same row.
Can I e-sign a Notion page?
Yes. asSigned sends a page from your Notion database for signature, with nothing to export or upload, and puts the signed PDF back in its row.
Do I need Zapier, Make or Notion automations?
No. asSigned watches your Notion database itself: set a row to Ready to send, and the email goes out within a minute. There's nothing to build in Zapier, Make or Notion automations.
If you already use Zapier or Make for other things, asSigned's webhooks can tell them when a document is sent, viewed, signed or cancelled.
Does it work on Notion's free plan?
Yes. Sending and signing need no paid Notion features, so asSigned works on any Notion plan, the free one included. Asking Notion AI about your contracts needs a workspace with Notion AI.
How do I get a contract signed from Notion?
Connect asSigned to your Notion with Continue with Notion. Then add a row to your Contracts database, write or paste the agreement into its page, fill in Signer Name and Signer Email, and set Signing Status to Ready to send.
asSigned checks your Contracts every minute, so the email goes out within a minute. When the signer has signed, the row shows Signed and the signed PDF is attached to it.
How do I set it up?
Choose Continue with Notion. Notion asks which workspace to connect and offers to copy asSigned's template into it: a Contracts database with a sample contract, a page on how to add signing fields, and a page you can turn into a Notion AI skill.
asSigned then takes you through three short steps: how you'll appear to signers, your Contracts in Notion, and sending the sample to yourself. You can skip any of them, and change everything later in Settings.
Can I use my own database instead of the template?
Yes. It needs a status column with an option for Ready to send and one for Sent, and a column for the signer's email. Other names work too: asSigned guesses which column is which, Settings shows what it found, and you can change anything it guessed wrong. Your columns keep their names.
In asSigned's Settings, choose Change what asSigned sees and tick the database's page, then choose Use this one beside it.
Do the people signing need Notion or an account?
No. They get an email with a link and sign on any device, without a Notion or asSigned account.
Can signers sign on a phone?
Yes. The signing page works on phones, tablets and computers.
Documents and fields
What kinds of documents can I send?
Any business agreement you can write as a Notion page: contracts, statements of work, NDAs, proposals, retainers, consent and onboarding forms. Text, headings, lists, tables, images and callouts carry over to the PDF. On Unlimited, you can send a Word or PDF file from the row instead of the page.
How do I add signature fields?
Type them into the page where they belong: [Signature] where someone signs, [Initials] for their initials, and [Date] beside a signature for the day they sign. With no [Signature] in the page, signatures go at the end.
Or write ordinary blanks, such as “Client signature: ______”, and set Signing Status to Add fields. asSigned turns the blanks into fields, sets the row back to Draft and comments on it with what it added, so you can check before sending.
Which fields are available?
Signatures, initials and dates; text, email addresses and numbers, checked as they're filled in; addresses; tick boxes; choices from a list; and file attachments, a PDF or image of up to 5 MB. A field can be optional, shown only when a box is ticked, filled in by the second signer, or started with what a column in the row says.
Can more than one person sign?
Yes, two. A second signer, such as you as countersigner, gets their link once the first has signed, and each can have fields of their own. More signers, a set signing order and copies for people who only need to see it come later, with a Pro plan.
Can I send my own Word or PDF file?
Yes, on Unlimited. Upload it to the row's Document column, and the file is what's signed instead of the page. Type fields into the file the same way as in a page. If the file has no [Signature], asSigned adds a page at its end for signing.
Can I fill the contract text from my database columns?
A field can start with what a column in the row says, such as the client's company, and the signer can still change it. Filling the agreement's own text from the row, the way a document generator does, isn't built.
Does it support languages other than English?
asSigned's emails and signing page are in English. The agreement itself can be in another language: signed PDFs show Latin-script languages with their accents, such as French, German, Spanish, Polish and Vietnamese. Chinese, Japanese and Korean text isn't supported in signed PDFs yet.
Sending and tracking
How do I know where a document is?
The row shows it: Sent when the email has gone, Viewed when the signer opens it, and Signed when they've signed. Waiting On names who has to sign next, and Last Activity says when something last happened. If a row can't be sent, it shows Error, and Send Error says why.
Does asSigned send reminders?
Yes. A signer who hasn't signed is reminded 3 and 7 days after sending. You can change the days in Settings, or add a Reminder Days column to set them for each row, such as 2 and 5, or none.
Do signing links expire?
Yes. A link works for 14 days unless you choose otherwise with an Expiry Days column, and each link signs once.
Can I cancel a document after sending it?
Yes, until everyone has signed. Set Signing Status to Cancelled: every signing link stops working, anyone who had one is emailed that it was cancelled, and a comment on the row says so.
What happens when everyone has signed?
The row changes to Signed, with the Signed Date filled in and the certified PDF attached, and every signer is emailed a copy.
Can my clients see my brand instead of asSigned's?
Your name is on every plan: emails go out in the sender name you choose, and replies come to you. On Unlimited, your logo replaces asSigned's on the emails, the signing page and the signed PDF, and emails no longer end with a “Sent with asSigned” line.
What if something goes wrong with a document?
Set the row's Signing Status to Get help. Within a minute asSigned comments on the row with what it can tell, such as why it wasn't sent or who it's waiting on, puts the status back, and passes your request to support, who reply by email. You can also write to support@as-signed.com.
Notion AI and other assistants
Does it work with Notion AI?
Yes, if your workspace has Notion AI: it can tell you who still owes you a signature, with nothing to connect. Turn the skill page asSigned puts in your Notion into a Notion AI skill, and it can also write and send a contract from one sentence, but it can never sign one.
Can an AI sign a document for me or my client?
No. Assistants can prepare and send documents, but only the people a document is sent to can sign, each on their own link.
Does it work with Claude?
Yes. asSigned has an MCP server, and Claude connects to it with a key you create in asSigned's Settings. Claude can then add signing fields, check a page, send a contract, say where it's got to, cancel one, and ask support for you.
Does it work with ChatGPT?
Not yet. ChatGPT connects by signing in rather than with a key, and asSigned doesn't offer that sign-in yet.
Is there an API?
Yes. A REST API, webhooks and an MCP server are on every plan, Free included, so your own tools can send documents and follow each one.
Pricing and plans
How much does asSigned cost?
Your first 5 documents are free, with no card needed. After that, Unlimited is $12 a month, or $120 a year ($10 a month), for as many documents as you send.
What counts as a document?
One agreement sent for signature, however many people sign it. It counts once its signing link goes to someone outside your account, so a document you send only to yourself doesn't count, and nor do drafts you never send.
Do the 5 free documents reset?
No. Free is your first 5 documents, not 5 a month. They're counted for the email address you sign in with and for your Notion workspace, so closing an account and opening another doesn't start them again.
What's the difference between Free and Unlimited?
Both include everything for signing: sending from a page, your own database, a second signer, every field type, reminders, expiry, cancelling, the certificate, the API and MCP. Unlimited adds unlimited documents, your logo instead of asSigned's, no “Sent with asSigned” line on emails, and sending a Word or PDF file instead of the page. Pricing sets them side by side.
What happens when I've used my 5 free documents?
The next row you set to Ready to send shows Error, and Send Error says to upgrade. Upgrade to Unlimited in asSigned's Settings, under Plan, then set the row to Ready to send again. Documents already sent and signed PDFs aren't affected.
Can my team use it?
Each person has their own account, sending from their own Notion database, and several accounts can work in the same Notion workspace. Teams, for working from one database together, is coming soon.
How do I cancel Unlimited?
In asSigned's Settings, under Plan: Manage billing changes or cancels it, and has every invoice. Unlimited lasts to the end of the time you've paid for, and your signed PDFs stay in your Notion either way.
If you're unhappy with asSigned for any reason, write to support@as-signed.com. The Terms say how refunds work.
Legal and evidence
Is an asSigned signature legally binding?
asSigned records simple electronic signatures, which the US ESIGN Act, UETA and the EU's eIDAS regulation recognise for most business agreements. Some documents, such as wills, need other formalities, as the Terms explain. If you're unsure about a particular agreement, ask a lawyer where you are.
What evidence does a signed document include?
Every signer agrees to sign electronically first. The last page of every signed PDF is a certificate: who signed and when, from which IP address and device, the words they agreed to, and the document's SHA-256 fingerprint.
How can someone check a signed PDF is genuine?
With asSigned's Verify page. It checks the PDF against the fingerprint asSigned recorded, in your browser, without the file leaving your computer. A copy changed in any way, however small, doesn't match, and Verify keeps working after asSigned has deleted its own copy.
Who is asSigned for?
Freelancers, consultants, agencies and small businesses that already run client work in Notion and need contracts, proposals or agreements signed. It's for business use.
When is another tool a better fit?
If you need more than two signers, a set signing order or approval chains, a general e-signature service fits better today. If you mainly want invoices or quotes filled in from Notion data, a document generator fits better. And if your contracts don't live in Notion, asSigned isn't built for you.
Security and privacy
Does asSigned keep my contracts?
Only while they're out for signature. Once everyone has signed and the signed PDF is on its Notion row, asSigned deletes its own copy. If the PDF couldn't be put on the row, it's kept 7 days so you can download it. A cancelled or expired document is deleted at once.
What stays is a small record, so a signed copy can always be checked: the title, who sent it, the signers' names, when each signed, and the signed PDF's fingerprint. The trust center lists exactly what's kept and for how long.
Where are my signed contracts stored?
In your Notion row, and in the inbox of everyone who signed. They're ordinary PDFs that open anywhere, for good, whatever happens to asSigned or your account.
What can asSigned see in my Notion?
Only the pages you share with it, which you can change in Notion at any time.
How is my data protected?
While asSigned holds a document, it's encrypted with AES-256 using a key that belongs to your account alone, and AWS encrypts the database and file storage as well. Every connection uses HTTPS. Payments go straight to Stripe, so asSigned never sees a card number.
Where is my data held?
In the United States, on Amazon Web Services in Oregon, with backup copies in Northern Virginia. Backups are kept 7 days and logs 30 days. Where the EU's or the UK's GDPR applies, the Data Processing Agreement is part of the Terms, and covers transfers from the EEA, the UK and Switzerland.
Is asSigned SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certified?
No. Rather than a badge, the trust center says plainly what asSigned does, and it changes when asSigned does.
How do I delete my account or get a copy of my data?
Write to support@as-signed.com. Deleting your account deletes everything asSigned holds for it at once, its encryption key included, and within 7 days it's gone from backups too. Your own copies in Notion and email aren't touched.
