1. Who's who
"We", "us" and "our" mean Work As Intended LLC, a company based in California, USA, which makes asSigned. "asSigned" means our website at as-signed.com, the asSigned app, its connection to Notion, its signing pages and emails, and its API, webhooks and MCP server.
"You" means the business, or the person in business, that has an asSigned account, and anyone you let use it. "Signers" are the people you send documents to.
By creating an account or using asSigned, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you're agreeing for a company, you're confirming you're allowed to.
We may change these terms. When a change affects your rights, we'll email the account's address at least 30 days before it takes effect and change the date at the top. If you don't accept a change, cancel before it takes effect and we'll refund any time you've paid for and won't use.
2. Your account
- For business use. asSigned is for sending documents in the course of business, including freelance work. It isn't for personal or household use. You must be at least 18.
- You create your account through Notion, and sign in through Notion or with a link we email you. Keeping your Notion account and your email secure keeps your asSigned account secure, so turn on two-step verification for both.
- You're responsible for what happens in your account, including what anyone you let in does, and what an assistant or tool does with an API key you made. Assistants can prepare and send documents for you. Only the people they're sent to can sign them.
- One free plan each. Don't make extra accounts to get more free documents or free time.
3. What an asSigned signature is, and isn't
- What it is. asSigned records simple electronic signatures, of the kind the US ESIGN Act and UETA and the EU's eIDAS regulation recognise for most business agreements. Every signer agrees to sign electronically first, and every signed PDF ends with a certificate of who signed, when, from where, and what they agreed to.
- What it proves about a signer. That they used the link sent to their email address. asSigned doesn't check anyone's ID, and it isn't a notary or a witness.
- Documents it isn't for. Some documents can't be signed this way. Under US law they include wills, codicils and testamentary trusts; adoption, divorce and other family-law matters; court orders, notices and official court documents; notices that utility services will be cut off; notices of default, repossession, foreclosure or eviction for someone's home; notices that health or life insurance is ending; product recall notices; and documents that must travel with hazardous materials. Other countries have their own lists, and some documents need a handwritten signature, a witness, a notary, or an advanced or qualified electronic signature. It's up to you to check that a document can be signed electronically before you send it.
- Not legal advice. asSigned doesn't read your documents for you or tell you whether they're enforceable. That's between you, your signers and, if you need one, your lawyer.
- Signers who are consumers. If you send to individuals outside their business, and a law says you must give them something in writing, you're responsible for any disclosures that law requires before they agree to receive it electronically.
- Your right to send. You must have the right to send each document, and to give us your signers' names and email addresses so we can send it.
4. What you can't use asSigned for
You can't use asSigned, or let anyone else use it, to:
- sign for someone else, forge a signature, or pretend to be someone you're not;
- trick people into signing, or send documents that are fraudulent or illegal;
- send documents to people who haven't dealt with you and wouldn't expect them, as spam;
- harass or threaten anyone, including us;
- send malware, or anything meant to track or harm a signer;
- get around asSigned's security, limits or plans, or into anyone else's account or documents;
- overload asSigned or its API, or copy, resell or rebuild it; or
- break any law that applies to you or your signers.
To report someone misusing asSigned, write to support@as-signed.com with what you saw and where. We won't tell them who reported it.
5. Plans, payment and refunds
- Free. Your first 5 documents are free, with no card needed. The free documents go with your email address and your Notion workspace, so a new account doesn't bring more. Documents you send only to yourself, and drafts you never send, don't count.
- Unlimited. $12 a month, or $120 a year, paid in advance through Stripe. It renews automatically at the end of each month or year until you cancel. Switching between monthly and yearly is charged or credited for the time left.
- Free time. A free-time code gives you Unlimited, free, for the time it says. We email you a week before it ends. When it does, you're back on Free unless you've upgraded, and if you upgrade during free time, you pay from when it ends. Codes can't be exchanged for money, and we may end a code that's being misused.
- Taxes. Prices don't include taxes. Where we have to collect sales tax or VAT, it's added at checkout.
- If a payment fails, you keep Unlimited while Stripe tries again. If it still can't be paid, your account goes back to Free. Nothing you've already sent is lost.
- Price changes. If we change the price of a plan you're on, we'll email you at least 30 days before your first payment at the new price.
- Fair refunds. If you're unhappy with asSigned for any reason, write to support@as-signed.com and we'll put it right. For example, if you were charged for a renewal you meant to cancel, or you upgraded and asSigned didn't work out, you can have your money back. Anything else we'll look at fairly, case by case.
6. Cancelling and closing
- Cancelling Unlimited. In Settings, under Plan, choose Manage billing. You keep Unlimited until the end of the time you've paid for, then your account is on Free. You won't be charged again.
- Closing your account. Write to support@as-signed.com from the account's address. Everything we hold for it is deleted, documents still out for signature included, so their links stop working. Our backups last 7 days, so within a week it's gone from them too. If we ever had to restore from a backup made in that week, we'd close your account again first. The signed PDFs in your Notion and your signers' email are ordinary PDFs and aren't touched, but our record of them goes, so asSigned's Verify page can no longer confirm them.
- When we close an account. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. Unless the problem is serious, such as fraud or harm to signers, we'll tell you first and give you a chance to fix it. If we close your account when you haven't broken these terms, we'll refund any time you've paid for and won't use.
7. Your documents and data
- Your documents are yours. You let us use them only to do what you ask: to send them, collect signatures, make the signed PDF and put it back in your Notion. We don't claim any ownership of them.
- We keep as little as we can. asSigned holds a document only while it's out for signature. The trust center says exactly what it keeps and for how long, and the Privacy Policy says what we collect and why.
- Data protection. For the personal data in your documents and about your signers, you're in charge and we act on your instructions. Where the EU's or the UK's GDPR applies to it, our Data Processing Agreement is part of these terms. Under California's privacy law, we're your service provider: we don't sell or share that data, or use it for anything but asSigned.
- Notion and Stripe. Your Notion workspace is governed by your own agreement with Notion, and payments by Stripe's terms. We aren't responsible for their services, and if Notion changes what its API allows, some of asSigned may have to change too.
- Ideas. If you send us suggestions, we may use them without owing you anything.
- Ours. asSigned's software, name and logo belong to us. Using asSigned doesn't give you any rights in them beyond using asSigned as these terms allow.
8. The service, and changes to it
- As it is. We work hard to keep asSigned running and correct, but we provide it as it is and as it's available, without promises that it will never be down or never have a bug. We don't offer a service-level agreement.
- Changes. We'll keep improving asSigned, which sometimes means changing or removing a feature.
- If asSigned ever closes, we'll email you at least 60 days before, and refund any time you've paid for and won't use. Your signed PDFs are already in your Notion and keep working.
9. Liability
- No other promises. Apart from what these terms say, we make no promises about asSigned, including that it suits a particular purpose, as far as the law allows.
- Indirect losses. Neither of us is liable to the other for indirect or consequential losses, or for lost profits, revenue, data or goodwill, however they arise.
- The cap. Our total liability to you for anything to do with asSigned or these terms is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or $100 if that's more.
- Claims about your documents. If someone, a signer included, makes a claim against us because of a document you sent through asSigned, or because you broke these terms or the law, you'll cover our reasonable costs of dealing with it.
- Some places don't allow some of these limits. Where they don't, they apply as far as the law allows.
10. Law, disputes and the rest
- Law. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA. Any dispute goes to the state or federal courts in California, and we both agree to them.
- Talk to us first. If something's wrong, write to support@as-signed.com. Most things can be put right that way.
- Notices. We'll write to the email address on your account. You can write to us at support@as-signed.com.
- Beyond anyone's control. Neither of us is responsible for delays or failures caused by things we can't reasonably control, such as an outage at a provider we rely on.
- Passing it on. We may transfer these terms to a company that takes over asSigned, and we'll tell you if we do. You need our agreement to transfer your account.
- The whole agreement. These terms, the Privacy Policy and, where it applies, the Data Processing Agreement are everything we've agreed about asSigned. If part of them can't be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a term straight away, we haven't given it up.
These terms are modelled on Basecamp's open-source policies, used under CC BY 4.0, and adapted for asSigned.
